The Head of UNOCA continues his mission in São Tomé and Príncipe

The UNOCA Head’s second day in São Tomé and Príncipe was devoted to consultations with the United Nations system, members of the diplomatic community and international partners.

Across all discussions, one message resonated strongly: the importance of preserving São Tomé and Príncipe’s long-standing tradition of peaceful democratic dialogue as the country prepares for important elections.

Mohamed El-Amine Souef was encouraged by ongoing efforts to strengthen the participation of women, young people and persons with disabilities in the electoral process, as well as by initiatives supporting justice, human rights, and institutional capacity-building.

The exchanges also highlighted the close link between peace, democratic governance and sustainable development. These pillars remain essential to ensuring that the aspirations of the Santomean people for stability, prosperity and inclusion continue to be realized.

As São Tomé and Príncipe approaches an important electoral period, preventive dialogue, inclusive participation and confidence in democratic institutions will remain essential to safeguarding the country’s remarkable legacy of peace and stability.
