Libreville, 3 August 2026 – Concluding a week of first contacts with Chadian authorities during a mission in N’Djamena, Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) of the United Nations and Head of the United Nations Office for Central Africa (UNOCA) Mohamed El-Amine Souef was today received in audience by President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno.
During the week-long mission, SRSG Souef met with the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Ombudsman of the Republic, the First Vice-President of the National Assembly, the National Commission in charge of the Implementation of the Demobilization, Disarmament and Reintegration Program (CNDDR) and the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC). He also held meetings with representatives of the diplomatic community as well as with the Resident Coordinator and the United Nations country team.
SRSG Souef’s mission to N’Djamena is in the context of the regional mandate of UNOCA and the continued engagement of his good offices in support of ongoing efforts being led by the Chadian Government and the various national stakeholders in Chad to help address security challenges as well as advance efforts through support of partners in the humanitarian assistance and socio-economic development domains.
In this regard, the Special Representative commended the ongoing efforts by the Chadian authorities to advance national stabilization and development as well as the country’s continuing role in support of the regional security agenda; and he reaffirmed the sustained commitment of the UN to working closely with the Chadian government and people to promote peace, security and development in the sub-region.
