GABON - LEGISLATIVES: UNOCA calls on calm and peace

UNOCA calls on calm and peace

The United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA) on a statement signed, December 16 2011, calls on the people of Gabon to conduct themselves in a calm and peaceful manner during the country's 17 December legislative elections.

UNOCA encourages the Government and people of Gabon to continue working for the preservation of peace and security and to strengthen democracy in the country.

The United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa takes this opportunity to remind both national and international opinion that, in accordance with its mandate, UNOCA is prepared to assist in the holding of credible, transparent and peaceful elections in all the Central African countries.

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General and head of UNOCA provides such assistance at the request of the Government or the parties concerned.
