Chad: the Head of UNOCA deplores the ongoing situation in N'Djamena and calls for calm
The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Africa and Head of UNOCA, Abdou Abarry, is following with great concern the events taking place in N'Djamena since the night of Tuesday 27 February and which allegedly led to loss of human life.
The Head of UNOCA extends his condolences to the families of the victims and calls on the competent authorities to take the necessary legal measures to ensure justice. He further urges all actors to show calm and restraint, particularly at a time when Chad is entering the final stage of its political transition. In this regard, Mr. Abarry underlines the need for all the daughters and sons of Chad to contribute constructively to the continuation of this process and to respect the electoral calendar which was published on 27 February by the National Election Management Board (ANGE).
The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Africa reiterates his availability and that of the United Nations System to continue to support the efforts of the government and people of Chad for the organization of an inclusive and credible election as well as for maintaining a climate of peace before, during and after the presidential election scheduled for 6 May 2024.
