A few hours before the vote for the Presidential Election on 12 April 2025 in Gabon, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Africa and Head of UNOCA, Abdou Abarry, reiterates his call for an election whose results reflect the choice freely expressed by the Gabonese people following a credible, inclusive, transparent, and sincere process. He calls on all the actors concerned to prioritize dialogue, consultation, and the search for consensus in the event of any discrepancies. More specifically, they are encouraged to use peaceful means and the relevant institutions to resolve any disagreements or disputes that may arise during the process.

Firmly combat acts that may constitute a threat to peace...

As he did during his press conference on 28 March 2025, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General puts emphasis on the need for all stakeholders, including candidates, to firmly combat disinformation, hate speech, and incitement to violence as well as all forms of intimidation, human rights violations, and other acts that may constitute a threat to peace and security of property and people.

As part of the good offices of the UN Secretary-General, the Special Representative reaffirms his readiness to support the Gabonese people in their march towards a return to constitutional order and, in this regard, welcomes the efforts already made to meet the transition timeline. He urges the Gabonese people to continue working for a peaceful, stable and prosperous Gabon.
